New York Times: Worker Is Killed in Fall at a Midtown Hotel

A worker died after he fell onto scaffolding at the Dream New York hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, the police said.

Fire officials said they received a report of the fall, at 210 West 55th Street, around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The city’s Department of Buildings said in a statement that the man, who was working for Alpha General Contractor of New York, fell about 80 feet through an area where planks had been removed.

The department issued a full stop-work order and issued a violation for failure to safeguard persons or property affected by construction operations.
